Between Avignon and Nimes, the village of Saint Victor la Coste sits against a hillside between the Cevennes hills and the Rhone valley. Saint Victor is composed of the village itself and a hamlet called Palus, name recalling the marshes that, centuries ago, covered much of the agricultural plain. Once separated by fields, these two areas are now joined by new housing construction.
The total surface of the village is 2700 hectares: 1300 hectares for the village and the plain and 1400 hectares for the hills and woods. This area covered by wild oaks was for a long time the source of the village's wealth. Now it is the vineyards (650 hectares) that have made the village famous for its Cotes du Rhone wines.
Saint Victor la Coste, set apart from the main roads of the region, is a quiet country village. It has slowly developed from a traditional agricultural community into a modern town offering all the necessities. The village school (built in 1950) is attended by 185 children spread among the 7 classes of primary schooling.
