The town square, or "Place de la Mairie," is shaded as are so many roads and squares all over France by spreading old Plane trees. The village center since the 19th century, this square was for a long time the center of village life, both social and economic. This tradition is maintained by the two café-restaurants that, in the warm seasons, open their terraces onto the square, welcoming the villagers and those looking for a tasty meal.
All around the square, other shops offer their wares. There is a small supermarket, a hair salon, and a "tabac-presse" where newspapers, magazines, cigarettes and postcards can be purchased.
Just below, the village bakery offers the inviting smells of fresh bread and other delectable treats.
A catering service and wine merchant complete the village's shops.
A creative touch is brought to Saint Victor la Coste by a professional photographer, an artist painter, a potter and a decorative painter.
In this largely agricultural community, there are two firms offering their services to farmers, fully equipped with the machinery necessary to complete the most arduous tasks, another firm that sells farm equipment, and two lumber companies.
A number of local craftsmen offer to the villagers all the necessary services. For the homes, a mason, an electrician, a window-maker are on hand. A mechanic and car body specialist repair and maintain cars and tractors. There are also companies specialized in transporting concrete, in iron-working, and in producing and repairing agricultural equipment.
Modern technology is well represented in the village by a firm specialized in automatic machines, another in publicity and a Web consulting and design firm.
For the village ladies, a beautician comes to your home (specialty: long-term makeup)
Cycling enthusiasts can also find custom made bicycles here.
