The pillars that form the side openings to the washhouses, like the rounded niches in the facades, were made from "Pont du Gard" stone cut by hand.
 
This fossil-filled limestone gives the buildings a very warm natural color that goes well with the light.
From the fountain to the washhouse pools, the water was conveyed by trough-shaped cut stones. These exterior channels permitted the local sheep herds to drink when the passed by in the street.
