| Dominating the plain to the north, and the wild limestone hills to the south, the castle of Saint Victor la Coste, known locally as "Le Castellas," has seen many centuries of village history. The name derives from the language once spoken in the region, Provençal and means "large fortified castle." |

Perched high above the castle, catching the first and last rays of each day's sunlight, the Castellas is the symbol of Saint Victor la Coste. It is a magical place that tells of the Middle Ages and feodality, but time has also filled it with the memories of generation after generation of villagers who have visited it, taking full possession of the monument.
Saint Victor la Coste was an important part of the medieval domain of the Sabran family, who were themselves vassals to the Count of Toulouse. The Castellas was the defensive strong point of the Sabran's domain, and it had the reputation of being impregnable. |
